Youth ministry cohort two kicks off

The first training was held on July 29th at Dakota Wesleyan University for the ten churches that have committed to be part of the second youth ministry cohort. The churches are: Beresford, Harold / Highmore / Blunt, Jamestown St. Paul, Milbank, Mitchell First, Mitchell Fusion, Selby / Mobridge, Spirit Lake, Valley City Epworth.

The cohort will meet quarterly with Stephanie Caro, Ministry Architects over the next year.  Through training and planning, each church will seek to create a culture of call for young people and develop youth leadership to help make disciples.

Participants walked away with several tips and tools.  One participant said, “The forms will be so helpful. I also like the great way to approach asking for volunteers.” Another participant mentioned that they really liked the practical ideas of how to get things going and get the help we need.

Several people that participated commented that, “It is great to know that we are not alone. We really like the practical ideas of how to get things going and get the help we need.”

“There are several unique pieces in this cohort,” said Deb Kjerstad, Dakotas Conference director of leadership development. “For example, both Mitchell First and Mitchell Fusion are participating to explore how they can compliment each other’s programs and work together."

Churches that are participating in Journey Renewal—Bismarck Calvary, Howard Beach, Langdon, Lead Trinity, Plankinton / White Lake and Rapid City South Maple, also participated in this training. “A vital youth ministry is a key part of a revitalized church,” said Rev. Rebecca Trefz, Dakotas Conference executive director of ministries. “The tools and techniques in this training can be used other aspects of church ministry, not just youth.”

There will be three additional youth ministry trainings this year—October 28, February 10, and April 28.  Any church is invited to attend, there is a small fee for materials. Contact Deb Kjerstad by e-mail or phone 605-990-7796 if you have questions or need further information.
