There is a proposed resolution regarding Tree of Life Ministry that members will be voting on at this year’s Annual Conference in Bismarck.
Tree of Life is in Mission, South Dakota on the Rosebud Reservation, serving several of the poorest counties in the United States. The reservation has an 80% unemployment rate.
The ministries of Tree of Life include: The Warm Welcome-feeding program and food pantry, Tree of Life Boutique-thrift store and a construction ministry.
This past year, Tree of Life Ministry updated articles of incorporation and bylaws, approved budget a that reduced a substantial amount of debt, launched a new logo, and developed a marketing plan for direct and indirect services.
One of the reasons that these measures were taken is to establish Tree of Life as a non-profit 501(c)3 organizations in the state of South Dakota.
This allows Tree of Life to apply for grants and funding from a variety of businesses, foundations and philanthropies.
Because Tree of Life is a ministry of The United Methodist Church, the updates to the Tree of Life articles of incorporation and bylaws require approval from the Dakotas Conference. On page 5 of the Conference Workbook, you will find a resolution. You can also watch an informational video about this.
