Rev. Andy Bartel, who is a Dakotas Conference elder and the lead pastor at St. John's UMC in Anchorage, Alaska is offering a  preaching workshop. The virtual workshop  is the official Lay Servant Ministry Advanced class through the General Board of Discipleship.

The only cost currently involved is that the participants need to purchase their own copy of the book “From Pew to Pulpit” by Clifton F. Guthrie (and have read it prior to the start of class). Purchase the book. 

"While I’ve assumed it is for lay persons, I could see how newer clergy could gain benefit from the course, especially in the absence of having preaching or exegesis course in seminary," says Rev. Bartel.

There are five modules, each two hours in length. The online course will take place Sundays from 5-7 p.m. mountain time, 6-8 p.m., central time, on January 24, 31 and February 7, 21, and 28,  2021.
