WEST FARGO - When Abednego Thomas moved to Fargo in 2007, he wanted to continue worshipping in the traditional African manner – even if it meant attending church service with an entirely different denomination.

The lifelong United Methodist soon started attending service at an Assembly of God church because it was the only option here for the style of worship he was used to.
“We went right over to the AG church because we wanted fellowship with our fellow Africans,” he said.
But the family eventually decided to return to the United Methodist denomination, and they became members at the Flame of Faith church in West Fargo, where they found a pastor who was interested in helping them start an African service.
