Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Moorhead voters have spoken, selecting the city's first ever female mayor- Del Rae Williams.
We sat down with her Wednesday afternoon.Where the former CPA and human rights activist says she's still shocked, but ready to hit the ground running.
Williams is not only the first female but Moorhead's first new mayor in 12 years, will soon be taking over Mayor Mark Voxland's seat.
For Williams, she hopes to start drawing business owners and people to downtown, listening to citizens' concerns on roads and parks, and streamlining legislative plans for St. Paul.
Del Rae Williams/Moorhead Mayor-Elect: “It gives you one more view of what that position could be. You know, a president can be now a black person and they'll be a time when a president can be a woman, and that will be what you visualize when you first hear the word president. Well a mayor in Moorhead won't always be a white man.”
And while outgoing mayor Voxland was known for his kick for hot sauce, one fun fact about Williams- she's a huge KISS fan.
