General Conference thoughts from Rev. Brandon Vetter

By: Rev. Brandon Vetter, Legacy UMC and incoming Southeast District Superintendent, Dakotas UMC

Although Rev. Brandon Vetter is not yet on the cabinet at the time of General Conference 2024, the legislation handled by the delegates will affect his work within The United Methodist Church as he joins the cabinet as Southeast District superintendent later this year.

Rev. Brandon Vetter shares these thoughts on our global connection, unity, diversity and regionalization.

"I think we are a very unique global body. Many of the dominations are regional by nation. We are a global denomination with all the pros and cons that come with it. It can be quite messy to watch. There is definitely movement of the Spirit in the mess that occurs. It is a picture of revelation, and it's a picture of how we could operate with unity and diversity. That's always my hope, every year, is that we can model something very different than what we see in our world today.

We might think the church works like everyone's on an equal playing field, but it's not really the case yet. And that we that delegates around the world have more saying what we do than currently reverse goes. I do like the regionalization legislation so that we kind of put everybody on an equal playing field. I think that might be interesting for Dakota folks."
