I am so grateful for the expressions of concern, offerings of prayer, and words of encouragement that I have received from so many persons across our annual conference. The news regarding my treatment for early stage esophageal cancer remains very good. A recent CT scan showed no presence of cancer in my lymph nodes or other organs. The protocol for follow-up includes repeat scans every 6 months for at least the next couple of years.
I will also be undergoing treatment for my "cancer-prone" tissue, starting with a procedure on December 19th. Joyceann and I will travel to Houston on the 18th and return home on the 20th. This process called radio frequency ablation will continue every two months, probably through the remainder of 2013 – along with frequent examinations in the coming years to inspect and biopsy tissue from my esophagus. The long-term prognosis is very hopeful provided that I work with my care providers in the ongoing treatment and monitoring. Again, receive my thanks and my testimony of God's grace that continues to be more than sufficient for the journey.
