The First United Methodist Church located in Jamestown, North Dakota has felt the impact of the oil boom to a small degree, just enough to appreciate Bishop Ough’s Miracle Offering.
The Administrative Council met and decided to do a special fundraiser. The group decided to host a brunch following the11:00 AM service on Sunday, April 28th with a goal of raising $1,000. The Council wanted a catchy name so the group settled on “Bacon for the Bakken” and put together a menu of egg bake dishes (including bacon), caramel rolls, bran muffins, fruit, coffee, juice and tea. Several members of the Administrative Council joined forces with the Missions Committee and prepared the meal.
Special offering envelopes were put on a table outside the sanctuary and on all of the tables during coffee fellowship time for those that could not attend the brunch but wanted to contribute towards the goal. Approximately 65 people were served and the goal was raised surpassed, $1,100 for the Miracle Offering. “We will leave the envelopes out until it is time to go to conference and maybe collect more offerings,” explained Ken McDougall, Jamestown First United Methodist Church, and a member of the kitchen crew.
“We had a great time preparing for the brunch and are thankful to all that gave so generously. The needs in the oil fields areas of our states are great but the power of God is greater, “ exclaimed Ken McDougall!
