Dr. Bruce and Sharon Blumer, co-founders of LaGonave Alive will return to Haiti in January. The island in Haiti is receiving support thanks to the efforts of this ministry, individauls and churches throughout the Dakotas Conference. 

LaGonave Alive, a 501 (c) (3) orgnaizaion, supports the Haitian people in three broad areas—supporting school scholarships, supplies and uniforms, providing health care through a clinic and outreach to villages and providing support for women, children and the elderly.

Blumer recently authored a book, that will be released in early October, "Even a Little Raindrop." It is a children's book about a raindrop that is afraid to jump off the cloud, after some experiences the raindrop gains confidence to jump.  It is a story that he heard as a child, from his father Rev. Boyd Blumer, retired. The idea of the book came from his son, Aaron, who heard the story from his father and grandfather as a child.  When you buy a book for $10 you receive a copy of the book and one will be given to a child in Haiti. The contents of the book are in both the English and Creole languages.

The 2016 goals in the Back to School program are to provide: scholarships for 25-30 students ($50 to $1,000 per year), school supplies for up to 2,000 children ($1 per child) and school uniforms for students to attend school ($15 per child).

While LaGonave Alive has provided scholarships for a several years, this year 35 students received scholarship. A committment of $4,000.

2,000 students received school supplies from the Back to School program thanks to the generous donations of many. 

Dr. William Hyppolite, graduated from medical school in the Domican Republic in March. He has returned to LaGonave and holds a clinic, named Hello Doctor, three times a week in the village of Zetwa.  The costs of the clinic are $30 per day. LaGonave Alive continues support to: women through microfinancing of various projects, children throug the Haiti Children Christmas program where $5 per child provides a meal and small gift and through a weekly feeding program that costs $25 each week. Elderly are also assisted by providing food packets, from Kids Against Hunger—Mercy Meals, for 55 elderly twice a month, at a cost of $25 for each delivery.
