LaGonave Alive supports projects in Haiti in three main areas – School Scholarships / Health Care / Women, Children, Elderly. While LaGonave Alive has provided scholarships for a several years, this year a Back to School program grew in important ways.
Scholarships were provided to 30 students from elementary through university levels. This is an annual commitment to provide opportunities. ($5,900)
School uniforms were provided to 114 children. There are public schools but if they don’t have a uniform, they can’t attend school. More than a hundred kids received a chance this year. ($1,500)
Students often share school supplies with their siblings or simply go without. 2,000 students were given 2 pens, 2 pencils, and 4 notebooks in various schools on LaGonave. ($2,000)
LaGonave Alive has been so blessed to have the support of partner churches and many generous donors. Partner Churches - Watertown 1st UMC, Hot Springs United Church, Yankton 1st UMC, Mitchell Fusion, Mitchell 1st UMC, Brandon Celebration UMC, SF Hilltop UMC, Minot Vincent UMC.
Our next project – Haiti Children Christmas – serving a meal and small toy for 850-1,000 children.
$5 makes a Christmas for a child.
