MAYDAY SIOUX FALLS will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015 throughout the city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Members of Sioux Falls First United Methodist Church and friends are signing up as Serving Outrageously in Sioux Falls (S.O.S.) teams.
Volunteers can sign up for one of 23 volunteer opportunities located all over the city for agencies that serve needs of the young, poor, old, lonely, homeless, sick, and abused. Saturday, May 2nd, 9 a.m. to noon, Sioux Falls First Church volunteers and their friends will rake, pick up trash, wash windows, make fleece blankets, paint walls, make treat bags for the police and firemen, dispose of old furniture and the list goes on.
Why Mayday?
May Day (the day) has several meanings. It is a spring festival and holiday celebrated in many cultures. These celebrations include singing, dancing and the secret delivery of May Baskets on the porches of neighbors. It also coincides with International Workers Day.
Mayday (the call) is an emergency procedure word used internationally as a way to signal distress on the radio.

8:15 - Gather at First UMC
8:30 - Welcome and divide into S.O.S. Teams
8:45 - Depart for work sites
9:00 - 12:00 - Work on location
12:00 - 1:30 - Celebration lunch & Recap
The day will conclude with a celebration luncheon. Volunteers on May 2nd will be wearing red t-shirts with the logo.
