The United Methodist Council of Bishops met this past week at Epworth by the Sea Conference Center in St. Simons Island, Georgia, to discuss the denomination’s future and role in the world. UMNews shared the following article, reporting on the presidential address from Bishop Tracy Smith Malone, President of the Council of Bishops. Bishops urged to perceive God's 'new thing'

“The United Methodist Church is moving forward choosing the pathway of love,” Malone said in her opening address to the some 100 retired and active episcopal leaders who had gathered. “And it is this love that we embody and multiply and witness in our communities and in the world.”

Bishop Malone reminded the United Methodist bishops of the need to lead in chaotic times. She drew attention to the theme of  God’s deliverance that runs through Scripture and they ways in which we can see God’s will for liberation and love at work during this new day for The United Methodist Church.  Read article

United Methodist Church Bishops issue statement on U.S. elections

Following the recent presidential elections, Bishop Tracy S. Malone issued a pastor letter on behalf of the Council calling on United Methodists to be agents love in the world, and to pray, speak, and act for justice and peace. 

"Our baptismal vows call us 'to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves,'" she wrote. "We therefore reject rhetoric, policies, and actions that demean or discriminate against any of God's children and will be vigilant in defending the rights of the vulnerable and speaking out against oppression. "
