It’s a common insult in our culture for someone to be told, “Stop being such a baby.” Infants are weak and helpless, and this is usually not how we want to think of ourselves. It is certainly not what we want others to think of us. We try so hard to project an image of strength and independence.
But we all start in the same place, seeking nourishment that can only be provided by a caregiver. Slowly we grow. Eventually we reach a place where we can also be the one to nourish others.
God calls us to start at the beginning and to embrace our need for what only God offers. From there we can grow in the faith and even provide sustenance for others in need.
